Rep. Eric Swalwell, a U.S. Congressman representing California’s 14th district since 2013, recently shared several opinions and condolences on his Twitter account.

On July 29, 2025, Swalwell commented on political discourse involving Senator Ted Cruz and recent criticism of an advertisement featuring Sydney Sweeney. He wrote: “2 thoughts:

1. Thirsty Ted will defend Sydney Sweeney but won’t defend his own wife against Trump’s smears. I’m sure that will poll well at home!

2. Attacking the Sydney Sweeney ad is dumb.”

The following day, July 30, Swalwell addressed a recent tragedy in Manhattan and reiterated his stance on gun control: “I’m terribly sorry for the victims + victims’ families of the Manhattan massacre. Not giving up on keeping most dangerous weapons out of the hands of most dangerous people. We should know when we send our kids to school that they’ll come home. And our kids should see us off to”

Later that morning, he responded to advice from another member of Congress with a note of sarcasm: “Thank you for this “back bench” press advice! Marge, you do it all — from spotting conspiracies to spotting fellow members.”

Swalwell has served in Congress since replacing Pete Stark in 2013 and currently resides in Livermore, California. Born in Sac City, Iowa in 1980, he is now 42 years old. He holds degrees from the University of Maryland—earning a BA in College Park (2003) and a JD from Baltimore (2006).
