Rep. Eric Swalwell, a member of the U.S. Congress representing California’s 14th district since 2013, posted a series of tweets on August 1, 2025, addressing topics ranging from domestic policy comparisons to international trade and foreign-made vehicles.
In his first tweet at 15:26 UTC, Swalwell commented on former Rep. Kevin Kiley’s remarks regarding state policies: “Former Rep. Kevin Kiley has thoughts on California doing EXACTLY what his Texas GOP colleagues are doing.”
Shortly after, at 15:38 UTC, he addressed recent U.S. trade actions toward Switzerland: “On Swiss National Day, the U.S. gave Switzerland a surprise gift: a 39% tariff. For a country that’s the 6th biggest investor in the U.S., this feels more like punishment rather than policy.”
At 15:43 UTC, Swalwell made another post referencing Russian-manufactured cars: “Don’t point out it’s a Russian-made car. Don’t point out it’s a Russian-made car. Don’t point out it’s a Russian-made car. Don’t point out it’s a Russian-made car. Don’t point out it’s a Russian-made car. Don’t point out it’s a Russian-made car. Don’t point out it’s a Russi”
Eric Swalwell has represented California’s 14th District in Congress since replacing Pete Stark in 2013 and is known for his active presence on social media platforms to comment on current events and policy issues (see https://swalwell.house.gov/about). Born in Sac City, Iowa in 1980 and currently residing in Livermore, Swalwell holds degrees from the University of Maryland—earning his BA in College Park (2003) and JD from Baltimore (2006).
