U.S. Representative Eric Swalwell, who has represented California’s 14th district since 2013, posted a series of statements on social media addressing public safety and political violence.
On September 11, 2025, Swalwell urged the public to cooperate with federal authorities in an ongoing investigation. He wrote, “Please assist the FBI if you recognize this individual.”
The following day, on September 12, Swalwell identified an individual by name and alleged threatening communications. He stated, “Who is Michael Barnes — @scubamyk on Instagram? He’s messaged me threatening to kill anyone he disagrees with. This is MAGA.”
Later that same day, Swalwell addressed the broader issue of violence and its political associations. In his post he said, “It doesn’t matter that Kirk’s killer was a straight white male. Or that he was from a Republican family that voted for Donald Trump. Violence has NEVER been the answer.”
Eric Swalwell has served in Congress since succeeding Pete Stark in 2013 and currently lives in Livermore, California. Born in Sac City, Iowa in 1980 and now age 42, Swalwell holds degrees from the University of Maryland at College Park (BA) and University of Maryland, Baltimore (JD).
