U.S. Representative Eric Swalwell, who serves California’s 14th district in Congress, posted a series of tweets on January 7 and 8, 2026, sharply criticizing U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and calling for legal action against the agency.
On January 7, Swalwell wrote: “Enough. This is murder. Local officials must prosecute ICE. And Congress should strip them of their immunity.” He followed up several hours later with another post questioning future actions by ICE: “Is there anyone who believes this is the last innocent person ICE will kill?”
The next day, Swalwell commented on a public figure’s response to the incident at the center of his criticism: “Just a young midwestern dad — who happens to be vice president — cheering on the murder of a young midwestern mom.”
Eric Swalwell has represented California’s 14th District in Congress since 2013, succeeding Pete Stark. Born in Sac City, Iowa in 1980, he currently resides in Livermore and holds degrees from the University of Maryland, College Park (BA) and the University of Maryland, Baltimore (JD).
