Representative Eric Swalwell, a long-serving congressman for California’s 14th district, expressed his views on several issues via social media, shedding light on his stance regarding economic policies and immigration. Swalwell, who succeeded Pete Stark in 2013, is known for his critical approach toward certain governmental policies. His recent tweets address matters concerning economic implications and treatment of vulnerable populations.
On April 29, 2025, Swalwell critiqued economic conditions under former President Trump, questioning the impact of tariffs and highlighting the financial burden on everyday Americans. In his tweet, Swalwell questioned the effectiveness of the economic measures, stating: “Have prices come down since Day 1? Trump is 0 for 100. And now with these tariffs, he’s raising prices on us even more. And now people are taking out LOANS to shop at the grocery store? Who voted for this? Let me answer: No one.”
Later that day, Swalwell addressed immigration policies, particularly concerning vulnerable groups. He criticized the actions that could lead to the deportation of immigrant children with severe health issues. In his message, he stated: “When my 7-year-old asks what I did today, I’ll say: I did not make it easier to deport American kids battling cancer. What will my Republican colleagues say?”
On April 30, 2025, Swalwell tweeted a brief but pointed critique of economic management, conveying his dissatisfaction with the current economic state. He wrote: “Small man. Small economy.”
Swalwell, a native of Iowa and current resident of Livermore, California, graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park with a BA in 2003 and earned his JD from the University of Maryland, Baltimore in 2006.
