Rep. Eric Swalwell, a member of the U.S. Congress representing California’s 14th district since 2013, recently shared several statements on social media addressing legislative efforts and political commentary. His posts touched on the protection of journalists and comments regarding past presidential administrations.
On May 6, 2025, Rep. Swalwell announced the reintroduction of the Journalist Protection Act alongside Senator Blumenthal. In his tweet, he stated: “Following #WorldPressFreedomDay, I proudly reintroduced the Journalist Protection Act with @SenBlumenthal. This vital legislation would make it a federal crime to intentionally harm or intimidate journalists engaged in newsgathering.” The initiative underscores his commitment to safeguarding press freedom as essential to democracy.
The following day, on May 7, 2025, Rep. Swalwell posted a brief statement criticizing actions taken under the current administration compared to those during former President Trump’s tenure. He remarked: “This NEVER would have happened under Trump.”
Later that day, he tweeted again with a more cryptic message: “The girls are fighting”, without further elaboration.
Eric Swalwell was born in Sac City, Iowa in 1980 and now resides in Livermore. He holds a BA from the University of Maryland, College Park and earned his JD from the University of Maryland, Baltimore.
