Rep. Eric Swalwell, a member of the U.S. Congress representing California’s 14th district since 2013, used his social media platform this week to highlight recent efforts by his office related to immigration enforcement and press freedom.
On March 9, Swalwell posted about an incident involving a child’s deportation: “Trump promised to deport violent criminals. Instead, they deported a 6-year-old deaf child without his hearing device. My team returned his sound. Now we’re fighting to bring this family home.”
He continued on March 10 by referencing the importance of journalism: “A free press can save us. @ShawnMcCreesh confronted power today. And didn’t flinch.”
Providing an update on March 11 regarding the previously mentioned deportation case, Swalwell wrote: “UPDATE: Last week ICE deported a 6-year-old deaf child WITHOUT allowing him to take his hearing devices. This week my staff flew to Colombia to return those devices. We gave him his sound. He gave us that smile.”
Eric Swalwell was born in Sac City, Iowa in 1980 and currently resides in Livermore at age 42. He holds both undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Maryland.
