U.S. Representative Eric Swalwell, who has represented California’s 14th district since 2013, posted several comments on social media on October 31, 2025, addressing national security, political responsibility during a government shutdown, and his personal experiences with threats.
In one post, Swalwell commented on South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem’s role in homeland security, stating: “For Halloween Kristi Noem should dress up as the Secretary of Homeland Security and do her job.” (October 31, 2025).
Addressing the ongoing government closure and former President Donald Trump’s influence over Congress and the White House, Swalwell wrote: “Trump admits he is in fact in charge of the White House, Senate, and House and therefore is responsible for the government being closed.” (October 31, 2025).
Swalwell also responded to criticism from Fox News regarding his choice of security personnel. He stated: “Get this — Fox attacks me for having an immigrant citizen provide my security, calling him a ‘Haitian man’. All the while DOJ declines to prosecute multiple death threats aimed at me and my kids.” (October 31, 2025).
Eric Swalwell was born in Sac City, Iowa in 1980 and currently resides in Livermore. He graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park with a BA in 2003 before earning his JD from the University of Maryland, Baltimore in 2006. Swalwell began serving in Congress after replacing Pete Stark.
