Rep. Eric Swalwell, a member of the U.S. Congress representing California’s 14th district since 2013, recently posted a series of tweets questioning government financial transparency, criticizing perceived political posturing, and commenting on media credibility.
On October 2, 2025, Swalwell questioned the reasons behind a government shutdown and referenced former President Donald Trump’s statements regarding federal revenue. He wrote: “WHY are we in a shutdown? Trump says the US has taken in $17 Trillion since he became president. Where is the money? Why haven’t you gotten a check?”
The following day, October 3, Swalwell commented on what he described as performative law enforcement attire by an unspecified individual. He tweeted: “I remember when I used to go out with the police on patrols and raids. Because it was a part of my job. What is this cosplaying bullshit? Did you get that uniform at a Spencer’s store?”
On October 4, Swalwell criticized MSNBC while referencing another public figure’s confirmation of their reporting. He stated: “MSNBC is a ‘factory of disinformation’ ***but in the last sentence of his tough guy tweet, Kash confirms the MSNBC story.”
Swalwell has served as California’s 14th District representative since replacing Pete Stark in 2013 and holds degrees from the University of Maryland (BA, JD). Born in Sac City, Iowa in 1980, he currently resides in Livermore.
