Rep. Eric Swalwell, a U.S. Congressman representing California’s 14th district since 2013, posted a series of tweets in August 2025 criticizing former President Donald Trump and House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer.
On August 18, Swalwell questioned the motives behind recent subpoenas issued by Rep. Comer, writing: “Cover-up Comer subpoenas everyone except someone who knows something. Why no Trump? Bondi? Patel? Or the last FBI Director? I’ll tell you. Because they’ll testify that Trump is in the Epstein Files.”
The following day, on August 19, Swalwell made another post about Trump’s political status: “Trump is in decline”.
Later that same day, he escalated his criticism with a direct accusation: “Trump supports slavery. Prove me wrong.”
Eric Swalwell has served as a member of Congress for over a decade after replacing Pete Stark in 2013 and represents constituents from California’s East Bay region. Born in Sac City, Iowa in 1980 and currently residing in Livermore, Swalwell holds degrees from the University of Maryland at College Park (BA) and the University of Maryland, Baltimore (JD).
