Rep. Eric Swalwell, a U.S. Congressman representing California’s 14th district since 2013, posted several messages on his Twitter account in late January 2026 addressing issues ranging from environmental advocacy to criticism of federal immigration enforcement.
On January 23, Swalwell paid tribute to Rob Caughlan and highlighted the legacy of the Surfrider Foundation: “California will miss Rob Caughlan. Rob led the Surfrider Foundation, whose biggest victory was ensuring our beaches are ALWAYS open for the public. I’ll forever be grateful that Rob introduced me to a profile in courage, his dear friend, Pete McCloskey.”
Later that day, he shared a brief message accompanied by an image or link: “Light work!” (January 23).
On January 24, Swalwell criticized Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), writing: “Bodies are piling up. How many innocent people will these masked thugs murder? We have to crush ICE’s budget.”
Eric Swalwell has represented California’s 14th district since replacing Pete Stark in Congress in 2013. Born in Sac City, Iowa in 1980 and currently residing in Livermore, Swalwell holds degrees from the University of Maryland at College Park and its Baltimore law school.
The Surfrider Foundation is known for its environmental activism and efforts to keep California beaches accessible to the public—a cause referenced by Swalwell as one of Rob Caughlan’s major achievements.
