CITY OF MARTINEZ: Planned Downtown Tree Removals

Trees

City of Matinez issued the following announcement on Nov. 24

Subject: Planned Tree Removals on 800 Block of Main Street – Street Closures from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., Tuesday, December 1st and Wednesday, December 2 nd

Contact: Public Works Maintenance Division (925) 372-3580

The City’s Public Works crews will be closing the 800 Block of Main Street from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesday, December 1st and Wednesday, December 2nd, in order to safely remove 6 trees deemed hazardous in a recent arborist assessment. During these dates and times, please avoid this area as much as possible. The tree removals are part of a phased approach to tree management in the downtown area, which will involve priority removal of hazardous trees and subsequent replanting with new varieties of recommended replacement tree stock as tree selections are finalized.

Future planned tree removals and tree replantings will be announced in advance as they are determined and scheduled. To solicit input from community stakeholders on preferred tree options for the new replanting phase, the City has released a Community Downtown Tree Survey. Please take a moment to complete the survey to help inform the City’s decisions for the future of the City’s downtown trees.
