Dear Community Members and Friends,
Holy Names University is embarking on a critical path forward. We are writing to share an update on actions the Board of Trustees and administration are taking to plan for the future of HNU.
Like many small, tuition-dependent universities nationwide, HNU is facing financial challenges. To address these challenges, HNU’s Board of Trustees is exploring a partnership with another educational institution. While details about potential partnerships must remain confidential at this time, we are heartened that we have identified institutions that share an alignment with HNU’s social justice mission and values-based approach to education.
As partnership discussions continue, we feel a responsibility to our community to be transparent about transitions that will be needed to prepare for such a change. It has become apparent that beginning Fall 2023, HNU will no longer be able to offer an athletics program. Knowing the important role that athletics has in our community makes this news difficult to share. The announcement is being made now to provide our student-athletes with as much time as possible to explore their options. HNU staff and coaches, and our entire community, are committed to working with student-athletes on their individual paths forward and ensuring they are supported through this transition.
HNU Athletics is a deep source of pride for Holy Names. The influence our student-athletes, coaches, and athletics staff have on our community is immeasurable. In the coming months, we plan to honor and recognize their many accomplishments and the Hawk Pride they have inspired in so many.
We want to thank our HNU community of alumni, donors, family, friends, and fans who have cheered on the HNU Hawks over the years. We will share opportunities for you to join us in commemorating the lasting legacy of HNU Athletics.
As we plan ahead and take steps in new directions, our focus remains on serving our students and honoring the 154-year mission of our founding Sisters.
Thank you for being a part of the Holy Names community.
Sincerely,
Mike Groener President
Steve Borg Chairperson of the Board
