Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – Burbank) will join local Burbank’s community garden supporters, volunteers, and city officials to celebrate the state allocation of $150,000 to the Los Angeles Community Gardens Council (LACGC) for two community gardens in the City of Burbank.  Senator Portantino successfully secured the funding from the 2022-2023 state budget after being introduced to Burbank’s community gardens by former Mayor Sharon Springer. The public is invited to the ceremonial check presentation taking place on Saturday, March 11, 2023 at 10:00 A.M. at the Chandler/Pass Community Garden located on 1141 North Pass Avenue.

The City of Burbank and the Los Angeles Community Garden Council, a 501(c)3 non-profit, partnered for the development of two new Burbank Community Gardens. The garden located at 1141 North Pass Avenue was launched in June 2022 and the garden at 3705 West Clark Avenue is expected to open in late 2023.

“I’m thankful for the support from Senator Portantino and I’m thrilled to work alongside LACGC to bring these community gardens to Burbank,” said Mayor Konstantine Anthony. “Cultivating fresh produce, encouraging sustainable practices, and raising civic engagement are a few of the many benefits to come. I can’t wait to see our residents and our community thrive.”

Community Gardens create a space where people from every background can come together to share a love of gardening. Community Gardens transcend social barriers and are vibrant, cooperative spaces that build self-reliance, reduce poverty, mitigate global warming, provide safe recreational green spaces, and have proven to reduce neighborhood crime.
