Highlighting their contributions, he criticized deportation policies that threaten to return individuals to "Taliban rule," stressing the harm such actions would cause both to personal safety and the U.S. economy. "I’m proud to represent one of the largest Afghan populations in the United States, who work hard, start businesses, and contribute to our thriving economy. Deporting them to Taliban rule puts lives at risk and slams our economy. We won’t let this stand."

Later that same day, Swalwell posted a brief, but pointed commentary on national leadership, simply stating, "Criminal presidency."

On April 17, 2025, Swalwell addressed a tragic event unfolding at Florida State University. He expressed solidarity with those affected by reports of an active shooter on campus and urged the public to adhere to directives from local officials for safety reasons. "Horrifying reports of an active shooter at Florida State University. My thoughts are with the students, staff, and families. Please follow all instructions from local officials and law enforcement. Stay safe."
